Empowerment Projects

  • The Trust is currently running 9 development projects involving a total of 3 851 goats, including 1 905 ewes and 1 946 kapaters
  • 5 x Somerset East , 1xGraaff-reinet, 1x Middelburg, 1 x Matatiele , 1x Beaufort West,
  • 4 graduates of Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries placed within the mohair industry in partnership with (DRDAR)
  • 2 placed at Grootfontein college of Agriculture & 2 at BKB
  • Pilot project at Mpofu Training Center in partnership with DRDAR

Grootfontein Agricultural College - 72 First Year Students Trained2019 saw the first year students of Grootfontein College of Agriculture, attending training conducted by the Mohair Empowerment Trust as part of the Trust’s efforts to create and support a sustainable mohair sector in SA!.

Irene FarmIrene Farm is a Empowerment partner since 2015. During October 2019 a new shearing shed was officially opened  by the MEC: Nomakhosazana Meth, Department of Rural Development and Agrarian Reform, Eastern Cape.
Brakfontein FarmBrakfontein is a Mohair Empowerment Trust partner for the next 5 years. The Empowerment Trust delivered 300 ewes and 380 kapaters early in 2019.
